PM-KUSUM in Madhya Pradesh: how farm land becomes a 2 MW solar plant.
We have built PM-KUSUM Component-A plants at Balaguda and Nimbod (Mandsaur) and Jhanjharwada (Neemuch), and engineered more than 15 others across Neemuch, Mandsaur and Ratlam. This guide explains how the scheme works in MP, step by step, with real numbers from our own plants.
पीएम-कुसुम योजना में किसान अपनी ज़मीन पर 0.5 से 2 मेगावाट का सोलर प्लांट लगाकर 25 साल तक बिजली कंपनी को बिजली बेच सकते हैं।
What PM-KUSUM Component-A is
PM-KUSUM is the central government’s solar programme for farmers. Under Component-A, a farmer, group of farmers, panchayat or FPO sets up a grid-connected solar plant of 500 kW to 2 MW on their land near a 33/11 kV substation. All the electricity is sold to the DISCOM under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA), which gives the landowner a steady income from land that may earn little from farming.
In Madhya Pradesh the scheme is coordinated by MPUVNL (MP Urja Vikas Nigam), and power is bought by the three DISCOMs: MPPKVVCL (west, Indore — which covers Neemuch, Mandsaur and Ratlam), MPMKVVCL (central, Bhopal) and MPPoKVVCL (east, Jabalpur). Component-C covers solarising agricultural pumps and feeders.
Official scheme details: pmkusum.mnre.gov.in. Rules and tariffs change between rounds, so we always confirm the current round with the DISCOM before you commit.
What a 2 MW plant in Mandsaur district actually generated
Our Shree Leela Devi Solar plant at Balaguda (2.10 MW DC / 2.00 MW AC) was built by WattPick as a full turnkey EPC, including the 11 kV line, and reached commercial operation on 17 March 2026. Its PPA is with MPPKVVCL at ₹3.25/kWh.
| Metric | First 106 days (Mar–Jun 2026) |
|---|---|
| Energy exported | 11,36,160 kWh |
| Average daily output | 10,718 kWh/day |
| Billed revenue (4 invoices) | ₹36,92,521 |
| Plant CUF (average) | 22.32% |
| Specific yield (average) | 5.36 kWh/kWp/day |

How a PM-KUSUM project moves from land to first bill
Land & substation check
We check plot size, shape and shading, distance to the 33/11 kV substation and the spare capacity on it — the single biggest factor in whether a site works.
Round, LoA & PPA
You apply in the DISCOM / MPUVNL round. After allotment (LoA) the 25-year PPA is signed at the tender tariff.
Engineering design
PVSyst yield report, array layout, string and inverter design, SLD, earthing and lightning protection, MMS structures and 11 kV evacuation — the drawing set banks and CEIG ask for.
Finance
Most landowners use a bank loan against the PPA. We prepare the technical documents and cost estimates your bank needs.
Turnkey EPC
Civil work, piling, mounting structures, modules, inverters, LT/HT panels, transformer and 11 kV line — built by our own team.
CEIG, sync & COD
CEIG inspection, DISCOM metering and synchronisation, then commercial operation and monthly billing.
O&M and SCADA
Remote monitoring, cleaning and maintenance to keep CUF and revenue up for 25 years.
Leasing option
Don’t want to invest? Lease the land to a developer for a yearly rent instead. We can connect you with developers we work for.
Built in the same districts where you farm
Our directors have worked on 33 kV and 11 kV lines, substations and transformers in Mandsaur district since 2013, which is why grid evacuation — the part that delays most KUSUM plants — is done in-house. We are an MNRE-registered and MPPKVVCL-approved vendor, and our engineering design work for other developers covers Dalodasagra, Hanumantiya, Semliyaheera, Upervada, Bhatkhedi, Harkiyakhal, Barlai, Rampura and Mawata.

PM-KUSUM in MP: common questions
Who can set up a PM-KUSUM Component-A plant in Madhya Pradesh?
Individual farmers, groups of farmers, cooperatives, panchayats and farmer producer organisations, either on their own land or by leasing the land to a developer. The plant must connect to a nearby 33/11 kV substation, so substation distance and spare capacity are checked first.
How much land does a 2 MW plant need?
As a rule of thumb, around 4–5 acres per MW for a fixed-tilt plant, depending on the plot shape, slope and shading. We confirm the exact layout with a site survey and a PVSyst design before anything is committed.
Who buys the electricity?
The DISCOM, under a 25-year power purchase agreement. In western Madhya Pradesh (including Neemuch, Mandsaur and Ratlam) that is MPPKVVCL. Our Balaguda plant’s PPA with MPPKVVCL is at ₹3.25/kWh; your tariff is fixed by the tender round you win.
How much does a plant actually earn?
Our 2 MW Shree Leela Devi plant at Balaguda exported 11,36,160 kWh and billed ₹36,92,521 in its first 106 days (March–June 2026). Output varies with site, design and season, so we give you a PVSyst estimate for your land.
Is PM-KUSUM open for new applications now?
New capacity is released in rounds through DISCOM / MPUVNL expressions of interest, and the scheme’s next phase is being prepared at the national level. Call us and we will check whether a round is open for your substation.
