CASE STUDY

Inside a 2 MW plant's first 106 days on the grid

7 min read

Most solar case studies talk in projections. This one uses the audited numbers from Shree Leela Devi Solar Energy, our 2.10 MW DC / 2.00 MW AC ground-mounted plant at Balaguda, Malhargarh tehsil, Mandsaur — covering its first 106 days of commercial operation, from COD on 17 March 2026 through June 2026.

The plant is connected to MPPKVVCL's Balaguda 33/11 kV substation under a PPA signed on 21 April 2025 at ₹3.25 per unit. Over the four monthly billing periods in the report, the plant exported 11,36,160 kWh and generated ₹36,92,521 in billed revenue across four separate invoices, each reconciled against the substation's own records.

Monthly output tells the more interesting story: 1,79,160 kWh in March's partial 15-day period, rising to 3,01,290 kWh in April, peaking at 3,52,500 kWh in May, then easing slightly to 3,03,210 kWh in June — a pattern consistent with Madhya Pradesh's seasonal solar irradiance, where May typically offers the clearest skies before pre-monsoon cloud cover begins affecting June generation.

The plant's Capacity Utilisation Factor (CUF) — the ratio of actual output to theoretical maximum output — averaged 22.32% across the period, peaking at 24.88% in March. Specific yield, a normalised measure of generation per kW of installed capacity, averaged 5.36 kWh/kWp/day, comparable to well-performing utility-scale plants in this part of Madhya Pradesh.

Perhaps the most telling number for anyone evaluating an EPC contractor isn't the generation figure at all — it's the meter audit. In the June 2026 reconciliation, the plant's main meter (Q1581942) and check meter (Q1581943) showed export readings of 3,03,210 kWh and 3,03,060 kWh respectively: a deviation of just 0.049%, well inside the ±0.5% threshold the grid code permits, with an average power factor of 0.998 lagging against a CEA requirement of above 0.95.

That level of metering precision doesn't happen by accident — it comes from correct CT/PT sizing, careful earthing and lightning-protection design, and disciplined commissioning testing before a plant is ever switched on. It's also, frankly, the number we're proudest of: revenue only means something if the meter everyone is trusting is actually accurate.
